The Geddes Reader Volunteer Group have made the decision that, with an eye to the future, it would be sensible at this stage to enter into an agreement with another agency to help in the manufacture, dispatch and marketing of the reader. To this end the Queen Alexandra College, Birmingham have agreed to take on the day to day running of the project. We feel that they are well suited for this task as they are dedicated to helping disabled people, especially those with impaired vision. As any monies gained from this new arrangement will go directly to the College, which is a registered charity and depends on earned income for its survival, or to three other charities, it is felt that the original ethos of the Geddes Reader project is continuing. The handover should take place in March 2011. Click here to view the Queen Alexandra College website News: 7th. February 2011
New Product Launch! After extensive development, and after listening to feedback from Glide users a new product is launched today: the Geddes BookReader. Primarily developed to enable the magnification of open books without pressing the pages flat, this hand held device with its focus finger allows the user to pass over the text whilst maintaining focus. It can also be left as a stand alone camera, using the frame as a stable base, or elevated by using a special arm which increases the capacity to view larger objects. The original Geddes Glide Reader will remain in production alongside this new product. Because of an increase in the cost of materials the price of the Glide has increased to £75. The BookReader will cost £150 and will be available from the end March 2011. Pre-orders are being taken. News: 7th.February
